DTN Closing Grain Comments 05/21 14:37 Grains Begin 21-Hour Days Mostly Higher The new-crop bean
market was the leader Monday on renewed buying from both commercial and noncommercial traders with
wheat not far behind….

Corn futures were choppy with a slight upside bias for much of the day. Most contracts except July
corn posted slight gains, but finished in the lower end of today’s range….

July Corn finished down 6 at 629 1/2, 15 off the high and 3/4 up from the low. December Corn closed
up 2 at 539. This was 4 1/4 up from the low and 10 1/2 off the high….

July corn opened 2 3/4 cents higher Sunday afternoon at 638 1/4 and traded as high as 644 1/2 near
10 pm and then traded as low as 628 3/4 around 9:30 am….

Large speculators cut their net long position in Chicago Board of Trade corn futures and options to
the smallest level since July 2010 as timely planting of the U.S….

Malaysian palm oil futures edged up  on improving exports although gains were capped as
investors remained wary over uncertainty surrounding the euro zone.   “Prices are poised
to recover after the recent sell-off….

July corn was trading about 2 cents higher into 7:00 AM central time and traded as much as 9 cents
higher overnight. Outside market forces were seen as slightly positive this morning with a weaker
US dollar and some strength in equity markets….

July Corn finished up 10 1/2 at 635 1/2, 3 off the high and 16 up from the low. December Corn
closed up 8 3/4 at 537. This was 15 up from the low and 5 1/2 off the high….

Corn futures ended firmer today to post sharp gains for the week. July corn ended 54 1/2 cents
higher than last week’s close, with December corn up 31 3/4 cents. Key for corn futures to build on
this week’s gains is how outside markets and the cash market performs….
