Q: please define a "fairway bond"

Category: glossary , Asked by: A. Vang from Waco, United States

A: the "fairway bond " is A type of bond that accrues interest if the embedded index or interest-rate option underlying the bond remains within a specified range. The fairway in golf is like the index or interest rate range. The outlook is positive if the ball lands on the fairway. If, however, a ball lands in the rough, the outlook is negative. Conservative investors will choose this type of bond in hopes of maximizing their yield when they believe that the option will remain within a certain range during the time the bond is held. Investors may profit the most during a sideways market. Should the option remain out of range, the least the investor can expect is a return of principal. Also known as corridor bond, index range note, range accrual note, or index floater. Visit Forex Club

do you know what the "round-trip trading" is?

Category: glossary by V. Barron from Amsterdam, Netherlands

An action that attempts to inflate transaction volumes through the continuous and frequent purchase and sale of a particular security, commodity or asset. Round-trip trading can be used to refer to the practice of a business selling an unused asset to another company while agreeing to buy back the same asset for about the same price (which has been seen in the energy and telecom business). This is a market-manipulation practice used to misrepresent the number of transactions occurring on any given day. Round-trip trading artificially inflates volume and revenues, but in reality adds no profit. Enron was a company that engaged in round-trip trading, and, by doing so, was able to increase revenues (and expenses) without changing its net income.
