please define the "debt instrument"
Category: glossary by Alfredo N. From Canada
a "debt instrument " is A paper or electronic obligation that enables the issuing party to raise funds by promising to repay a lender in accordance with terms of a contract. Types of debt instruments include notes, bonds, certificates, mortgages, leases or other agreements between a lender and a borrower. Debt instruments are a way for markets and participants to easily transfer the ownership of debt obligations from one party to another. Debt obligation transferability increases liquidity and gives creditors a means of trading debt obligations on the market. Without debt instruments acting as a means to facilitate trading, debt is an obligation from one party to another. When a debt instrument is used as a medium to facilitate debt trading, debt obligations can be moved from one party to another quickly and efficiently.
do you know what the "abandonment clause" is?
Category: glossary by T. U. From United States
A clause in a property insurance contract that, under certain circumstances, permits the property owner to abandon lost or damaged property and still claim a full settlement amount. If the insured party's property cannot be recovered, or the cost to recover or repair it is more than its total value, it can be abandoned and the insured party is entitled to a full settlement amount. This type of insurance clause typically comes into play with marine property insurance, such as boats or watercraft. If a property owner's ship is sunk or lost at sea, the abandonment clause affords the owner the right to essentially "give up" on finding or recovering his or her property and subsequently collect a full insurance settlement from the insurer.
do you know what "payout phase" is?
Category: glossary by Desiree O. From Leeds, United Kingdom
The phase in an annuity during which payments are made to the annuitant. These are usually paid on a monthly basis and last for the lifetime of the annuitant. The income received from an annuity by a retired investor is considered taxable income. When an annuitant is ready to begin receiving payments from his/her annuity, he/she notifies the insurance company of his/her decision to do so. Actuaries use mathematical models and life expectancy tables to compute payment amounts which will last for the life of the annuitant (the longer you wait, the larger your payments will be). Most annuities have a minimum age at which an annuitant can begin the payout phase without incurring an early withdrawal penalty, and they can also include provisions to continue payments until both the annuitant and his/her spouse are deceased.
